MOODY MAKES IT #4 FOR
2008
The Southwest
Superchargers delivered
their fifth show of 2008
July 26 at Lubbock Dragway,
Idalou, Tx. A unique all-run
12-car field ran Saturday
evening after two great
displays. The regular
Saturday morning display was
very well noticed at United
Supermarkets and O'Reilly
Auto Parts on 52nd Street.
And a great show was made
Friday night in support of
Hooters 25th Anniversary on
Loop 289.
The weather at
Lubbock cooperated nicely as
the SWSC began the first
round of qualifying
around 5:30. The local short
car contingent of Mike Jones
altered and Jack and Amy
Chapmans 23 Aero roadster
ran a beautiful side by
side, 5.041/136 to
5.047/140. Next Jack
Bartletts small block and
Sue Stringers big block both
sorta struggled, 6.755/94 to
5.685/121. Incidentally the
SWSC 1/8 mile index is 4.70.
Bill Norman/The Fabulous Fat
Boys Hemi met Gary Hills Mex
wedge Mopar in the next
pair, Garys 4.851/140 out
running Bills 5.350/126.
Julian Moodys big block went
4.774/145 vs Don Davids
skittish 7.996/39. Another
close pair was Paul Harris'
big block and Jacob Penners
427. Harris was slightly
quicker with his 4.911/131
to Jacobs 4.947/141. Greg
Powell made a decent
4.987/132 single. We have no
stats in the Q1 pass of LH
abd Francis Newlins 23t.
Q2
started with Sue Stringer
and Jacob Panner firing
their 427 Chevys. Penners
4.888/143 out distanced Sues
5.107/135. Don Davids nice
4.950/145 was met by Gary
Hills sub index 4.679/145.
Francis Newlin tuned LH's
23t to a 5.132/137 vs Greg
Powells 4.895/141. Mike
Jones crossed over into Jack
Bartletts lane negating both
times. Jack Chapman went
4.924/146 against Moodys
"top notch" 4.709/146. Bill
Normans broken 6.811/60 was
over shadowed by Paul
Harris' 5.007/142.
Around 8:30 the
SWSC began Eliminations with
#2 Gary Hill meeting #11 LH
Newlin. Hill moved to the
next round by his 4.841/124
over LH's troubled
5.392/135. #5 Greg Powell vs
#8 Don David were next, with
Powell advancing 4.832/134
over Dons wheel standing
6.913/67. #3 Jack Bartlett
"fouled" against Sue
Stringer, his 5.765/121 to
her 6.882/65. #6 Paul Harris
lost one of the closest
races of the event to #7
Jack Chapman, .007/4.969/135
for Harris, .011/4.874/148
for Chapman. Nice run, Guys!
#4 Jacob Penner won over #9
Mike Jones 4.886/143 vs
4.944/147. #1 Julian Moody
got a bye when #12 Bill
Norman couldn't make the
call to Rd1 and produced a
great 4.693/146.
Rd 2 Eliminations
saw Sue Stringers wounded
ride surrender to #4 Jacob
Penners 4.893/141. #5 Greg
Powell won with his superior
4.783/143 over #2 Gary Hills
sub index 4.682/133. And #1
Julian Moody advanced to the
semi finals over local hero
Jack "The Hoopie" Chapman.
My apologies to
Jack Chapman and Crew for
initially indicating their
advance to the semis when
the rule book clearly reads
otherwise. Mea culpa.
So...Gary Hill was
reinstated to competition by
virtue of his 4.682 sub
index loss in Rd 2. Garys
Mopar lost to Moody and Team
when Gary ran another sub
index 4.678/136 against
Moodys 4.704/146. Next Greg
Powell threw away a nice
4.781/144 (red light start)
to Jacob Penners 4.811/147.
The SWSC Final
Round got under way as #1
Julian Moody (El Paso)
started his routine vs #4
Jacob Penner. Julian Moody,
Henry "The Wizard" Keller
and The Pipeliner team
notched Win #4 with another
4.70 to Penners too-quick
4.64.

Congratulations to Jacob
Penner on his 2nd runner up
this season!
Congratulations
to Julian Moody on his
unreal 4th win this season!
