       Moody On Top of SWSC Field
 
          The Southwest Superchargers went to El Paso Motorplex  Saturday September 4 for their eighth race of the 2010 racing season and the "Pipeliner" team of Julian Moody and Henry Keller and the boys again came out on top .
 
          Fourteen supercharged hopefuls showed to take their turn challenging the concrete quarter mile at El Paso. 
           
          The Southwest Superchargers Qualifying ladder showed Julian Moody to be the Labor Day #1 Qualifier with his 7.595 (.005 under index). #2 was Gary Hill (7.584/.016 under), #3 Buck Woolen Sr (7.571/.029 under), #4 Bill Norman (7.638/.038 over), #5 Jacob Penner (7.645/.045 over), #6 Lyle Byrum (7.535/.065 under), #7 Don David (7.531/.069 under), and #8 Doug Meshirer (7.683/.083 over).  #9 was Sue Stringer (7.75/.15 over), #10 Buck Woolen Jr (7.820/.220 over), #11 Ricky Esparza (8.646/1.046 over) and #12 Brittny Blakely (8.724/1.124 over). 
 
          In Round #1 of SWSC Eliminations Texas neighbors #4 Bill Norman and #5 Jacob Penner squared off to begin their duel to see who would advance to the next round. Penner fell victim to  Bills nice slightly- under- index 7.579. #2 Gary Hill moved to Round 2 on a soft 7.955 when #7 Don David ran an under-index 7.55. But Gary failed to win the Jerry Norman Race Cars Driver Bounty on Don in that pass when Don had the better r.t., .467 to .491 for Gary. #9 Sue Stringer was substituted when #8 Doug Meshirer couldn't make the call. She ran #1 Qualifier Julian Moody. Moody won with a great 7.595 over Sues farther under index pass of 7.436/180. (Looked like both the driver and the tuner missed the mark on that pass!) Finally in Rd 1 #3 Buck Woolen advanced with his 7.676 over #6 Lyle Byrums quicker 7.667.
 
          Rd 2, the semi-final round of competition, saw #2 Gary Hill meet #3 Buck Woolen. Both have 500+ cubic inch monsters in the frame rails, both from Southern New Mexico. A great SWSC race ensued and Buck triumphed by .025 seconds, his 7.618 over Garys sub pass of 7.593. The other half was not as dramatic as #4 Bill Norman drew a red light (.394 light) and a sub index pass of 7.50 to #1 Julian Moodys winning 7.5920. Note that the Southwest Superchargers again had the four top qualifiers  advance to the semi-final round. Neat, huh?
 
          So the SWSC final came down to #1 Moody vs #3 Woolen. Buck was looking back at the last several races and a couple of #1 Qualifiers. Julian was remembering all those other wins and SWSC championships and hoping to do it again here . Bucks  illegal pass of 7.594 surrendered the closest margin of the night, to Julians 7.609 for the win.    M.O.V. of only .015 seconds! With that I believe Julian Moody virtually locks up his seventh (or so) Southwest Superchargers Points Championship...with two races  in the season remaining! All the "Pipeliner" Team has to do is display at both of the two remaining races and qualify at one. Congratulations Team Pipeliner! And Great Job Buck Woolen and Crew on your first Runner-Up!

     Two races left in the 2010 SWSC season. Next up on Sep 18 the SWSC will make the trek to Wall Dragway in San Angelo Texas. The  SWSC last ran at Wall 7 or 8 years ago and we look forward to the meet. Well See You at the Races! Watch for  another display at the local base, Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo.
